Recognizing the urgent need to reduce the carbon footprint of European football, UEFA has integrated climate advocacy into its 2030 football sustainability strategy, Strength through Unity. With the launch of the Carbon Footprint Calculator today at the Emirates Stadium in London, UEFA aims to empower member associations, clubs and leagues to become active drivers of change.
The UEFA Carbon Footprint Calculator, based on the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and with a methodology verified by a third party, is the result of a two-year joint effort involving two dozen football organizations and external consultants. It enables football organizations to comprehensively assess and understand their carbon emissions, focusing on football-specific areas such as mobility, purchased goods and services, facilities and logistics. (The UEFA Carbon Footprint Calculator is available to anyone interested in football and is available here www.uefa.com/carboncalculator .)
