Support for climate-focused trade policy

Executive Vice-President and Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis, together with 60 partner countries, presented several measures to achieve progress in the priorities of the Coalition of Trade Ministers for Climate. Today, the Coalition of Trade Ministers for Climate met for its second ministerial meeting on the sidelines of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi. In this context, ministers identified ways in which trade policy can support decarbonisation efforts and contribute to sustainable development through individual and collective actions.
These actions aim to strengthen the coalition's efforts to break the deadlock between the business, climate and finance communities. This is essential to promote trade-related climate action in international organisations, notably the WTO, to support developing and least developed countries in implementing trade and climate strategies, to promote international standards to support decarbonisation efforts, and to encourage private participation in sustainable, transparent and resilient supply chains.
