The European Council announced that it had adopted new legislation aimed at gradually reducing emissions of highly effective greenhouse gases, including fluorinated gases (F-gases) and ozone-depleting substances (ODS), marking the final major step towards implementing the new regulation.

According to a statement from the European Commission, which welcomes the announcement, the new rules will lead to the elimination of 500 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions by 2050, roughly equivalent to the combined annual emissions of France and Belgium.
