In the report of the European Commission states that the EU needs to reduce greenhouse gas pollution almost three times faster than in the last decade to meet its climate targets. In an effort to stop more extreme weather, the EU has pledged to pump 55 % less gas into the atmosphere to heat the planet in 2030 than in 1990. But it has reduced emissions by just 32 % over the past three decades. The Commission in its latest report on the state of the energy union found that behind "significant gaps" for the next seven years . Current policies will reduce emissions by only 43 % in 2030, according to new estimates project of the European Environmental Agency. This number rises to 48 % if they include policies that have been planned but not yet implemented, but still have a climate deficit of seven percentage points. (Ajit Niranjan).
