21 misleading myths about electric vehicles

Electric vehicles (EVs) significantly reduce life-cycle greenhouse gas emissions in almost all circumstances and are a key technology for decarbonizing road transport. Although not having a car has even greater climate benefits, many people's ability to go carless is limited by their circumstances and the availability of alternatives. That means electric vehicles are "likely to be key" to tackling transport emissions, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) says. EV sales are growing rapidly and in 2022 will represent one in seven cars sold worldwide – compared to one in 70 just five years ago. Despite this, electric vehicles have been subject to relentless hostile coverage in the mainstream media in many major economies, including the UK.
