Addressing the climate crisis remains the most pressing challenge facing our global community. As the effects of climate change persist, humans are witnessing and playing a role in the degradation of our planet, leading us to the International CO2 reduction day , which is held annually on January 28. International CO2 Reduction Day is here to raise awareness and encourage people around the world to do their part in caring for the environment and the planet by reducing their carbon footprint. Because CO2 is such a large contributor to climate change, the day is a reminder for countries, companies and individuals around the world to reflect on their operations and patterns of change. And it's about time.

The transport sector remains one of the largest contributors to global emissions

According to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the year 2023 went down in history as the warmest year on record. The World Economic Forum in its recent report The State of Climate Action states that global emissions must be reduced by 7 percent per year by 2030 to maintain any chance of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C by the end of this century. In the last millennium, the use of fossil fuels released billions of tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Fossil fuels still dominate around 80 percent  of global energy supplies, are the main cause of global warming and cast a threatening shadow over the future of our planet. Motorized transport remains largely dependent on engines that generally run on fossil fuels. This means that the transport sector is still one of the largest contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. Around 25 percent of global CO2 emissions can be attributed to the transport sector.
