Created in 1992, the LIFE program is the EU's instrument for funding environmental and climate action, which has co-financed more than 5,000 projects helping Europe become greener. From 2021, the LIFE program includes a new sub-programme Transition to clean energy.

The total budget for the implementation of the LIFE program for the years 2021-2027 is EUR 5.432 billion.
