Given the urgency of the matter, more entities are pledging their net zero goals. Currently, there are more than 80 countries and hundreds of businesses that have established their net-zero plans. Among them are the global producers of the evening - China, the United States of America, the European Union and India. To have net zero emissions means a point, the greenhouse gas emissions in supplied by humans into the air are balanced by the emissions removed from the air.
Think of it as a scale. Emissions of carbon and other greenhouse gases tip the scale, and the goal of net zero is to bring the scale back into balance.
Achieving this balance requires two things.
- Reduction of emissions released from human activity closer to zero.
- eliminating emissions that are difficult to reduce.
Achieving net zero means we can still create some emissions. But as long as they are offset by initiatives that will be GHG already in the atmosphere.
A number of carbon removal solutions and technologies are being developed to capture CO2 from the air and store it.
So reducing and eliminating emissions is net zero in the global race. ( Jennifer L, full article at carboncredits.com )
