The Budapest Declaration, adopted by countries in the WHO European Region on 7 July 2023, sets out policy commitments and actions to address the health risks posed by the triple crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss. It could be a real game-changer for the health sector’s engagement with climate change and for the contribution of climate policy to health. In terms of adaptation policy, a key commitment is to develop, update and implement “National Health Adaptation Plans”, either as stand-alone documents or as part of broader national adaptation plans.
