The Earth's climate is changing rapidly. In some areas, rising temperatures are increasing the frequency and likelihood of fires and drought In others they do downpours a storms intensify or accelerate the rate of glacier melting. Last month is a clear example of this. Parts of Europe a Canada are being destroyed by forest fires, while Beijing has recorded heaviest rainfall over the past 140 years. Looking back, between 2000 and 2019, the world's glaciers lost approximately 267 gigatons of ice annually. Melting glaciers contribute to rising sea levels (currently rising by about 3.3 mm per year ) and other coastal risks such as flooding and erosion. (Matthew Blackett from Coventry University)
