The Global Steel Climate Council (GSCC) has published the Steel Climate Standard, a global standard for measuring and reporting carbon emissions from steel and setting reduction targets. GSCC is one of several industry groups promoting a global steel standard and leading efforts to reduce carbon emissions from steel. GSCC’s Steel Climate Standard aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from the global steel industry in line with the climate goals of the Paris Agreement. It offers a single protocol applicable to all steel producers because it is not tied to a specific production technology but requires producers to have science-based greenhouse gas emission targets. A draft version of the standard was released in April 2023. Stakeholder feedback has been incorporated into the recently published final version. (Jennifer L)
