Persuading businesses and people to reduce climate emissions is key to slowing climate change – research-based techniques and new approaches from the behavioral sciences can show how

In 2022, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change highlighted that lifestyle and behavioral changes have the potential to greatly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions. These changes – from using more mass transit to making homes and offices more energy efficient – have the potential to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 to 70 % by 2050. However, to achieve these large reductions, policies are needed to help drive individual change, often through government or business. However, research in the social and behavioral sciences focused on the best solutions lags behind communication about climate and its physical science. This is one of the reasons why some members of the public believe that individual actions will not have any meaningful impact. ( (Kira Barrett)
