Agroforestry system – combined land use against climate change

The first agroforestry projects are being created in Rhineland-Palatinate, as climate change also requires a rethink of agriculture. Instead of monocultures and vast arable land, farmers should in future combine agriculture with groups of trees and shrubs, according to a plan by the Ministry of the Environment, which supports these projects. The idea behind it: Trees are purposefully planted on agricultural land or pastures. They loosen the soil, can store water, provide shade and, if you plant nuts or chestnuts, for example, there is a harvest.
