From July 1, 2023, the new Act No. 146/2023 Coll. on air protection came into force, along with implementing regulations - decrees (their list can be found on the website of the Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic link: https://www.minzp.sk/ovzdusie/ochrana-ovzdusia/pravne-predpisy/ ). The main goal of the new legal air protection is to ensure and maintain good air quality, reduce total emissions and limit emissions directly at the source. The new legislation increases the powers of the state, district offices and local governments in the fight to improve air quality. Local governments can be more actively involved in air quality management: develop programs to improve air quality, establish a low-emission zone, limit the performance of selected activities on their territory, such as waste crushing or smoking in the city center.
