Ground temperatures in Spain exceed 60 degrees Celsius as deadly heatwave grips Europe

Ground temperatures in parts of Spain reached more than 60 degrees Celsius (144 degrees Fahrenheit) during a deadly heatwave that swept across Europe, satellite images have shown. It was so hot that heat maps, which highlight scorching temperatures in red, turned even darker — black. Temperature records were broken across most of the continent, including French , Switzerland, Germany and Italy, where the highest temperatures of 40 °C were recorded again on Wednesday. In Sicily and Sardinia, it was forecast to reach up to 48 degrees Celsius.
