Ground temperatures in parts of Spain reached more than 60 degrees Celsius (144 degrees Fahrenheit) during a deadly heatwave that swept across Europe, satellite images have shown. In Sicily and Sardinia, it was forecast to reach up to 48 degrees Celsius. (Jane Dalton)
