The pioneering GoProFor LIFE project aims to collect and share hundreds of sustainable forestry activities, tools and experiences in a unique database of best practices that can be used by forest managers across Europe. “Sustainable forest management means improving the goods and services that come from forests, while also ensuring that such a precious resource is preserved for future generations,” says Luigi Torreggiani, a member of the GoProFor LIFE communications team. “But what is ‘good practice’? It is a concrete action, scientifically validated and above all repeatable, that allows specific habitats and species to be preserved or biodiversity levels to be improved in degraded areas.”  The project, which runs until March 2023, identified five key areas for sustainable forest management: biodiversity; habitats; invasive species; climate change; and planning, governance and management. Anyone can access and search the database for free and download fact sheets, find links to other LIFE projects and contact details of experts in different fields from different European countries.  So far, the database that has been included in the center UN Decades for Ecosystem Restoration and which will remain active until 2033, has been accessed by more than 50,000 people.
