The strong presence of the IUCN Commission for Education and Communication (CEC) at COP28 reflected the urgency and opportunity to transform education systems worldwide to address the biodiversity and climate crises. CEC experts spoke in the blue and green zones during COP28, building momentum for climate and nature-based education. For the first time, CEC was invited to submit a technical brief in support of the IUCN COP28 position paper, to provide context and rationale for the importance of climate and nature-based education in addressing the interconnected climate and biodiversity crises. The brief, Nature-based Education for Planetary Health , was prepared by members of the CEC’s Nature Education for Sustainability Specialist Group and published as part of the IUCN Technical Briefs series presented at COP28.
