The update of European climate targets under the Paris Climate Agreement and the associated common EU position at the UN Climate Conference in Dubai, the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles, as well as the revision of the Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive and the reduction of plastic waste. These were the main topics of the EU Environment Council in Luxembourg. The Slovak delegation was led by Minister of the Environment Milan Chrenko. The European Union remains a global leader in the fight against the climate crisis. In this context, the ministers agreed on the update of the climate targets resulting from the Paris Climate Agreement, but also on the common position of the EU countries at the climate conference, where they will support more ambitious global commitments to reduce greenhouse gases. The priority is to maintain the goal of a global temperature increase of no more than 1.5 °C compared to the pre-industrial period.
