Visualizing the impacts of climate change

GLOBAL warming is rapidly accelerating climate change, largely due to greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and other human-induced changes to ecosystems. These are affecting the planet’s ability to effectively absorb and recycle carbon, making small island developing states (SIDS) such as the Caribbean islands particularly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Factors that make the region vulnerable include its geographical location, limited land area, abundance of sensitive ecosystems such as forests, mangroves, coral reefs and other natural habitats, high population density in coastal areas, economic dependence on climate-sensitive sectors, and limited access to resources for adaptation and resilience-building.
