The consequences of the climate crisis have already hit our cities. Innovative solutions are needed to respond to the new conditions.
Vienna (OTS) – The past few weeks have once again reminded us of the consequences of man-made climate change: from floods in parts of Austria, Slovenia and Italy to forest fires in Greece to global temperature records. Increasingly frequent weather extremes are a clear sign of the global climate crisis. Meanwhile, Austrian cities are increasingly confronted with the dramatic impacts of climate change: periods of drought followed by periods of heavy rain, rising temperatures to the risk of flooding and landslides. In Vienna, the average annual temperature is expected to increase by 2.3 degrees by 2050. If climate protection is not massively supported, the temperature in the Austrian capital is expected to increase by around five degrees by the end of the century compared to 1850-1900. Are our cities able to respond to these new conditions? Is it even possible to adapt to these realities and somehow mitigate them? (Klimabündnis Österreich GmbH)
