European Green Deal is the first priority of the current European Commission under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen. It represents the European Commission's plan for the green transformation of the European Union's economy for the sake of a sustainable future. The whole world, including Europe, will have to deal with increasingly frequent and difficult environmental and climate change challenges, including halting the loss of biodiversity. It is the European Green Deal that represents a tool for facing the given challenges and turning them into opportunities.
The primary objective of the European Green Deal (hereinafter referred to as the "EGD") is to ensure that Europe by 2050, it will become the first ever climate-neutral continent. In order to achieve this long-term goal, it will be necessary for the net emissions of greenhouse gases produced by the member states of the European Union to be equal to zero by 2050. This means that EU member states will only be able to emit as much CO2 as natural and artificial carbon sinks will be able to capture.
