ISO 14064-1 – Corporate greenhouse gas inventories

ISO 14064-1 is a guide on how to quantify a company's greenhouse gas emissions. It is quite close to the GHG Protocol standard for corporate accounting and reporting (Scope 1) and includes the same resolution of scope and emission metrics.

However, ISO 14064-3 provides further guidance on how to: how to verify greenhouse gas inventories related to the declaration The verifier collects evidence, checks the GHG information system, evaluates the GHG statement, and compares the report with the verification criteria for consistency and accuracy.

ISO 14064 is not normative for data quality, but requires a statement of assumptions, limitations, and methodology.

If an organization decides to have its GHG inventory verified or to issue a public GHG statement that complies with ISO 14064-1, it must also prepare a report to facilitate verification of the GHG inventory.
