Energy efficiency means that less energy is used to achieve the same result. It makes it possible to save energy and reduce emissions from power plants. The 2018 energy efficiency laws are being revised to help the EU meet new ambitious climate targets set out in the European Green Deal for 2021. They will also help reduce Europe's dependence on fossil fuel imports, which come largely from Russia, so as set out in the RepowerEU plan. The EU is simultaneously working on rules to increase the consumption of energy from renewable sources.
