In November 2019, the European Parliament declared a climate emergency and called on the Commission to keep in mind the objective of significantly reducing emissions and keeping global warming to 1.5°C in all its legislative proposals. In response, the Commission presented the European Green Deal, a plan to make Europe a climate-neutral continent by 2050.
