Weather experts have warned of the potential impact of the El Niño phenomenon, which is taking hold in the central Pacific Ocean, but are unsure what impact it will have on southern Africa. El Niño is a weather phenomenon that typically brings warmer temperatures and lower rainfall due to warm sea surface temperatures along the South American coast and towards the central Pacific Ocean, caused by weaker trade winds (easterly winds near the equator).
