The meat industry uses "disinformation" to block dietary change

Report on Misinformation: Crop Denial, Distraction and Deception suggests industry is shirking responsibility for its role in greenhouse gas emissions. By denying, derailing, delaying and deflecting meaningful debate about the sector's key issues, the agriculture industry is using the same tactics as the tobacco and fossil fuel lobbies.

The report outlines coordinated social media attacks on nutrition science and the portrayal of the industry as targets of "anti-meat militancy".

Livestock accounts for more than 14 percent of all global emissions, with meat accounting for nearly 60 percent of all greenhouse gases from food production. Experts say that a significant reduction in meat and dairy consumption - especially in rich countries - is essential to meet international climate targets. (Clare Carlile, more at www.desmog.com)
