A better link between waste management, circular economy and climate change mitigation measures can support the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

A new EEA briefing finds that while European countries are already taking many initiatives on waste management, and circular economy, can do more to take these actions and their potential emissions savings into account when reporting on climate policies and measures. This will provide a better overview of climate change mitigation efforts and highlight the mitigation opportunities that can be provided by strengthening circular economy measures.

Achieving the European Union's goal with zero climate purity will require broader action across all economic sectors by 2050. This includes activities related to materials and how we produce, use, recycle and dispose of them.

The study looks at how European countries can better incorporate circular economy measures (in general) and waste management measures (more specifically) to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. (More on www.eea.europa.eu)
