A study published on Wednesday by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) predicts in June elections a clash between those who fear the extinction of human life due to climate change and those who fear the "disappearance of their national and national interests"... "cultural identity" due to immigration. The results come from surveys in 11 European countries – including nine EU states representing 75 percent of the EU population – which suggest that European voters can be divided into five “crisis tribes”. Each of these tribes is primarily concerned with one of five “crises” affecting the continent: climate change, global economic turmoil, immigration, the COVID-19 pandemic, and Russia’s war in Ukraine. “We asked people a very simple question: which of these events do they think will have the biggest impact on how they see their future,” explained Pawel Zerka, senior policy officer at ECFR.
