A majority (79%) of homeowners in Germany are in favour of replacing fossil fuel heating systems with climate-friendly alternatives, but there is uncertainty about how this transition to heating will be implemented fairly, a survey by the consultancy co2online has found. While the German cabinet agreed on a de facto ban on the installation of new fossil fuel heating systems on Wednesday (April 19), most homeowners are unsure about what options are available to them, rate planning security as not good and are generally concerned about changing heating systems, according to the survey. Under the Building Energy Act, all newly installed heating systems must be operated with at least 65 percent renewable energy sources from 2024 “where possible”. The details surrounding the law “lead to enormous uncertainty and even deep concerns that they will not be able to cope with the possible challenges”, said co2online CEO Tanja Loitz.
