Popular short video app said it was updating its misinformation policy to target any content that “undermines the established scientific consensus” about global warming. All clips that contain misinformation about climate crisis, will be removed. The company is also rolling out new search features that will direct anyone searching for climate content towards “credible information” obtained in partnership with the United Nations. It’s a similar approach to the one on YouTube, which promotes links to UN websites about climate change, when people search for relevant videos. TikTok said the changes will help “strengthen accurate discussions about climate” and “reduce harmful misinformation.” The changes will be implemented ahead of Saturday’s Earth Day, an annual global event that highlights the importance of dedicating time, resources and energy to addressing the climate crisis.
