Commission welcomes strengthening of EU climate ambition ahead of COP30

The Commission welcomes the agreement reached by Member States on the EU's ambitious new nationally determined contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. Ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Brazil Belem The EU sends a strong and unified signal to the global community, that it continues to be firmly determined achieve the goals of the Paris Agreementand work with global partners to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is a clear demonstration of the EU's commitment and leadership.

The new EU NDC, which will now be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), aims to: reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by 66.25-72.5 % by 2035 compared to 1990 levels, covering all sectors of the economy and all greenhouse gases. This is an ambitious milestone on the path to a net reduction of 90 % by 2040 compared to 1990 levels, leading to the EU achieving climate neutrality by 2050. (More on ec.europa.eu)
