Although electricity generation from photovoltaics (PV) is considered a low-carbon technology, the production of PV panels can be energy-intensive and have varying environmental impacts. In order for the EU to achieve its targets in the decarbonisation – reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 55 % by 2030 compared to 1990 levels and achieving climate neutrality by 2050 – seeks to promote the use of “clean” solar energy while ensuring the sustainable production of the panels that produce it.
