The role of data visualization and information design in news on the state of the climate in Europe (ESOTC) has become increasingly important over the years. 2024 edition continues this trend: from custom envelope design to over 130 With responsive, mobile-optimized charts spread across all pages, data visualization has played a key role in translating complex information, guiding users through data, and helping transform numbers into powerful narratives.

The ESOTC 2024 study, compiled by the Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), was published on 15 April 2025. It offers a detailed overview of climate conditions in Europe and the Arctic in 2024, based on around 40 comprehensive datasets, and is the result of close collaboration between 100 scientists and experts from around the world.

Every single data point has a story about the planet we live on, and it deserves to be told in the most compelling way possible. Science remains the undisputed protagonist of this publication, with data visualization helping to make it accessible, engage a non-expert audience, and spark discussions on such an important and pressing topic.
