Low rainfall, dry soils and shrinking rivers are putting pressure on ecosystems, agriculture and transport routes across Europe and neighbouring regions.
The latest data shows declining river flows and worsening drought: these conditions are caused by warmer than average weather and lower rainfall across much of the continent since the start of the year, according to a report on drought in Europe – April 2025 , published today by the JRC.
The report says that as forecasts through June show drier than average conditions in northern and western Europe, concerns are growing about the impact on agriculture, river transport and ecosystems. (More on centre.ec.europa.eu)
