Commission sets out key steps to manage climate risks to protect people and prosperity

The European Commission today published a Communication on Climate Risk Management in Europe.  (EUCRA) It sets out how the EU and its Member States can better anticipate, understand and manage growing climate risks. It also sets out how the EU and its Member States can design and implement policies that save lives, reduce costs and protect prosperity across the EU.

The Communication responds to the first ever European Climate Risk Assessment (EUCRA) in the form of a scientific report prepared by the European Environment Agency. Together, the Communication and the assessment constitute a call for action for all levels of government, as well as for the private sector and civil society. They illustrate how all major sectors and policy areas are exposed to climate-related risks, how serious and urgent these risks are, and how important it is to clarify who is responsible for addressing them.
