The European Green Deal is a package of policy initiatives aimed at setting the EU on a path towards green transformation with the ultimate goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
Supports the transformation of the EU into a fair and prosperous society with a modern and competitive economy.
It highlights the need for a holistic and cross-sectoral approach, where all relevant policy areas contribute to the ultimate climate objective. The package includes initiatives on climate, environment, energy, transport, industry, agriculture and sustainable finance, all of which are closely linked.
The Commission presented the European Green Deal in December 2019 and the European Council took note of it at its December meeting. (More on consilium.europa.eu)
