Whether it's wind, solar or water, green energy sources will dominate the energy sector. Here's how some energy experts predict how… A subset of renewable energy, green energy – generated from natural sources such as sunlight, wind or water – includes renewable energy sources that offer the greatest environmental benefits. So even though all green energy sources are renewable, not all renewable sources are considered green.
The wider renewable energy sector is experiencing an unprecedented surge in growth - supercharged as businesses and countries struggle to secure power in the wake of the global energy crisis. This factor is one of the main contributors to the fact that the world will add as much renewable energy to its arsenal in the next five years as it has in the last 20 years.
Global renewable energy capacity is expected to grow by 2,400 gigawatts (GW) between 2022 and 2027, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). That figure from 2022 – 30 % higher than estimated a year ago, the IEA says – equals China's total energy capacity. (Maya Derrick)
