Education and information can increase acceptance of climate policies

An important question for policymakers around the world is how to make climate and environmental policies acceptable to the population. A new study published in Climate Policy sheds light on preferences in five East African countries. Among other things, the study shows that education and information about how carbon tax revenue is used is an important factor. For climate policies to be acceptable to the public, it is essential that they are effective and that resistance and protests are avoided. Until now, research has focused on high-income countries. However, this new study is based on a survey of 4,766 respondents in Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda. It turns out that there are both similarities and differences compared to previous studies. (University of Gothenburg)
