What is the carbon footprint of your Christmas dinner?

Are you feeling climate-conscious this Christmas? Are you wondering how much CO2 are your sprouts worth it? You're not alone. A recent survey in the UK found that 53% of adults who celebrate Christmas think it is important to do so in an environmentally friendly way. So what is the best organic option for a festive meal? Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's a vegetarian alternative, at least according to Sarah Bridle, professor of food, climate and society at the University of York and author of Food and Climate Change – No Hot Air. In an interview with Technology Networks in 2020, Bridle broke down the carbon costs of three types of traditional British Christmas dinner: one with turkey "main meat", one with beef and one with substitute vegetables.
