Students express their concerns about climate change: sustainability and climate education through action learning

What are the connections between socially marginalized communities and the negative impacts of climate change? Commemorative events such as Labor Day and Indigenous Peoples’ Day provide us with an opportunity to reflect on climate action from a sustainability perspective. This semester, students in PM 599: Social Dimensions of Climate Change in a Sustainable World are exploring the many social dimensions of climate change through a variety of media, including podcasts and op-ed writing. “One way we equip our students to become cutting-edge public health practitioners, scientists, and leaders is by training them to be well-versed in the nexus of climate, health, and justice while honing their skills in multiple domains, such as science and climate communication,” says Ans Irfan, MD, EdD, DrPH, ScD, MPH, MRPL, faculty in the Department of Environmental Health.
