Medical device manufacturers, already facing extensive quality and safety regulations, have been relatively slow to embrace sustainability initiatives for years.  A message However, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) estimates that healthcare systems – from professional diagnostic tools and invasive surgical instruments to consumer medical offerings – account for 4 to 8 % of greenhouse gas emissions. This realization is leading several large healthcare networks, retailers, and medical device manufacturers to announce goals to become carbon neutral by 2050. To meet these milestones, they will need to exceed the carbon footprint created by their own operations.
