The footage is striking, aerial views from last year allow us to realize the extent of the damage that has been happening in the forests between Čierny Balog and Drábsko for some time. This phenomenon affects most of the spruce forests in our region. These trees are completely dried out. The cause: successive droughts in recent years have encouraged the development of a small parasite: the bark beetle. It gnaws into a tree already weakened by water stress, develops under the bark and causes it to die in just a few weeks. Almost the entire population is affected. Then only one solution is needed: culling. This parasite only affects spruces. However, concerns also weigh on the future of other species.
