'A sad picture': Drastic measures needed to keep Paris Agreement goals alive, UN chief warns

Secretary-General António Guterres said the global response to climate change is woefully inadequate. World leaders have gathered in New York to discuss some of the world’s biggest challenges at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The climate crisis and its interconnected implications for security, food and poverty have taken centre stage. UN Secretary-General António Guterres opened the global gathering on Tuesday (19 September) by mentioning the catastrophic floods in Libya this month. He said the thousands of dead were “victims of years of conflict, victims of climate chaos, victims of leaders near and far who have failed to find a path to peace”. (Rosie Frost, euronews.green)
