A new law comes into force today to ensure the collection, reuse and recycling of batteries in Europe. New regulation on batteries will ensure that batteries in the future have a low carbon footprint, use minimal harmful substances, require fewer raw materials from outside the EU and are collected, reused and recycled to a high extent in Europe. This will support the transition to a circular economy, increase the security of supplies of raw materials and energy, and strengthen the strategic autonomy of the EU. In line with the ambitions of European circulation green agreement the Battery Regulation is the first European legislation to use a whole life cycle approach in which acquisition, production, use and recycling are addressed and enshrined in a single law.
