Transaction-based CO2 accounting from SAP: Supporting climate protection

Sustainability and climate protection in particular have quickly become top priorities for executives. It is no longer a question of why companies should contribute to climate protection, but how. Although it may sound unlikely: Accounting can play a not insignificant role in this. Companies must start treating greenhouse gas emissions as financial transactions. For that, they need a CO accounting system 2 , which is similar to their financial accounting.  However, carbon accounting is still mainly done using spreadsheets and semi-automated tools that use estimates to determine the carbon footprint  and averages. Only 9 percent of companies have a comprehensive overview of their greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the entire value chain.
