How climate change disrupts precipitation patterns and threatens our health

Climate change is not just about rising temperatures. A warming planet is also affecting rainfall, with droughts and extreme rainfall events becoming more common in different parts of the world. Where water is scarce, soil dries out, causing crop failures and people’s health to be at risk from lack of drinking water. As warmer air can hold more water, climate change is also leading to heavier rains and extreme flooding in other areas. This is claiming lives, destroying homes and infrastructure, and placing a huge economic burden on our societies.
