Climate change increases risks for pregnant women

In Europe, longer heat waves are expected to increase, as is to be expected given climate change. What not everyone realizes: groups for whom increased temperatures pose a particular risk include the elderly and chronically ill, pregnant women and newborns. Apart from the usual recommendations to go to the shade and put your feet up, the topic has so far been neglected, says Silvia Vihs, coordinator of the midwifery centre in the Hanover region. “It is important to educate women so that they understand why they should not start their shopping spree in the midday heat.” (Barbel Hilbig)
