A carbon price can rationalize emissions mitigation spending across technologies

The different time horizons for net zero mean that there is no universal price for reducing carbon emissions. Plans for decarbonisation are proliferating around the world, including in India. First came the plan to electrify vehicles, before electricity supply standards reached the international reliability level of 0.999. Another goal is to have 50 percent of electricity supply from non-fossil fuels (NFF) (hydro, nuclear, solar, wind and biomass) by 2030. For this happy result, 65 percent of the installed electricity production capacity must be green by that year ( CEA 2023 ). (SANJEEV AHLUWALIA)
