An area of tropical rainforest the size of Switzerland was lost last year as tree loss soared, according to new research. It means the political pledge to end deforestation made by world leaders at COP26 is far from being met. Around 11 football pitches were lost every minute in 2022, with Brazil dominating the destruction. But a sharp drop in forest loss in Indonesia shows that reversing this trend is achievable.
