The UK has committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Some of the changes that will affect the public during this transition will be decided by government at national level. But many solutions will also require personal decisions. Much of the progress in reducing emissions has so far been made with minimal public intervention. This includes decarbonising energy generation. But this cannot continue if the UK is to meet its target. The Climate Change Committee has estimated that more than 65% of the % of emissions reductions by 2035 alone must involve some form of public choice.
